Sony Corporation teamed up with Kaneka Corporation
We proudly share that Sony Corporation has teamed up with Kaneka Corporation by adopting KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™ as the cushioning material for its 85-inch BRAVIA® TV models.
This marks the first time a company has eliminated polystyrene foam protective material for TVs. The strength and durability of the cushioning material are essential to prevent damage while transporting large-screen and heavy TVs.
Sony and Kaneka have combined their expertise in packaging design technology and particle foam and molding technology. This represents the world's first use of Green Planet foam molded products as cushioning material for electronic products, paving the way for the extensive consumer electronics market.
Kaneka Corporation, our parent company, has developed and produced a biodegradable biopolymer called Green Planet, made from 100% biomass. It can biodegrade in various environments, decomposing and returning to CO2 and water in soil and seawater, which can help address plastic-related environmental pollution issues.
The introduction of Green Planet foam molded products is the result of combining Kaneka's particle foam technology with Green Planet polymer technology. This development opens new possibilities for shock-absorbing, environmentally friendly cushioning materials for household appliances, food containers, and other packaging.
