Applications

Kaneka MS Polymer™ does the job!

Although Kaneka MS Polymer was initially developed as a sealant material for skyscrapers in earthquake-sensitive areas, the technology platform has grown ever since and now covers a vast portfolio of sealant, adhesive, and coating applications. New high-strength polymers from Kaneka add higher strength adhesives for structural bonding onto Kaneka’s never-ending list of new applications.

Sustainable chemicals

Chemicals are essential for the well-being and comfort of modern society. They are used in a big range of sectors, going from health care to energy, but also mobility and housing. Because they are being used everywhere, it is important that the chemicals are non-hazardous and therefore safe to use for our health, but also for the environment.

Label- and Tin-free

  • Products have to comply with the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation.

  • Focus on safer and environment friendly raw materials.

  • Developed several solutions that allow tin-free formulations for sealants and adhesives, without any compromise on technical performance.

Bio-based products

  • Adding lignin bio-additives results in enhanced UV and thermal stability properties.

  • Can also be used as base material for moisture-curing, bio-based hard coatings and primers.

  • Next step : fully bio-based polymer backbone.

Non bleeding sealants

  • Normal plasticizers can migrate into the surrounding environment.

  • Kaneka's silane-functional plasticizers react with the MS PolymerTM to prevent this.

  • Same properties, but safer application, increased shelf-life and reduced overall maintenance.

High weatherability products

  • Suitable in freezing cold, but also in hot, humid climates.

  • Low glass transition temperature (Tg) provides flexibility at sub-zero temperatures.

  • Acryl Modified MS PolymerTM is the ideal choice for sun-exposed applications.

Renovation wave

Already since the beginning, MS PolymerTM proved to be successful in the construction market. In the meantime, the portfolio has expanded and Kaneka can guide you to develop different products that are crucial during construction and renovation.

General purpose adhesive/sealant

  • High quality, elastic, 1K adhesive/sealant with good adhesion to most common substrates.

  • Turbo adhesive also possible if very fast strength build up is required.

High tack adhesive

  • High quality, elastic, 1K adhesive/sealant with good adhesion to most common substrates.

  • High initial adhesion without external support.

  • Ideal for bonding different building materials, such as stone, insulation boards, gypsum board, ... .

Flooring adhesive

  • Solutions for parquet flooring, ranging from elastic, hard elastic to hard parquet adhesives.

  • Also for high-demanding rubber, vinyl and Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) applications.

  • As always, safe and environment-friendly alternative to other technologies.

D4 wood adhesive

  • Strong and waterproof D4 wood adhesive based on Kaneka's high strength technology.

  • No safety issues because of solvent-and isocyanate-free system.

Repair adhesive

  • Strong, elastic, 1K adhesive/sealant with good adhesion to most common substrates.

  • Ideal for repair jobs indoors and outdoors.

  • No safety issues because of solvent-and isocyanate-free system.

Weathering solutions

  • Solutions for detailing, but also for full roof coverings : EPDM adhesive or Liquid Applied Membrane (LAM).

  • A stretchable and 100% waterproof membrane can be created.

Low modulus (glazing) sealant

  • Meets the highest level of requirements according to ISO11600-25LM or ISO11600-G-25LM without the use of a primer.

  • Excellent workability and weatherability.

PSA

  • MS PolymerTM to be used a a base resin or added to the acrylic PSA.

  • Stonger and softer adhesives with improved temperature and chemical resistance can be obtained.

Smart mobility

In the last couple of years, car manufacturers have focused on weight reduction in order to limit the CO2-emission. Heavy metals are being replaced by lighter plastics and therefore screws and bolts are being replaced by adhesives. Besides the lighter materials, also the engines are changing. Electric vehicles with a large set of batteries impose new challenges and solutions need to be found.

Plastic adhesive

  • Ideal for hybrid adhesion.

  • Acryl Modified MS PolymerTM shows good adhesion to different types of plastics, such as hard PVC, fibre reinforced plastic (FRP), polycarbonate (PC), polystyrene (PS), ... .

Assembly adhesive

  • 1K and 2K adhesive solutions for structural and semi-structural bonding of composite materials.

  • Windscreen adhesive based on Kaneka MS PolymerTM is already widely available.

High strength / high elongation

  • Challenging properties such as high elongation (more than 500%), high tensile strength (6MPa and higher) and excellent, primer-less adhesion are possible.

  • Eco-friendly alternative for high-performance adhesives.

Thermal Interface Material (TIM)

  • Electric vehicles are the future, but heat dissipation in battery cells is necessary.

  • MS PolymerTM in combination with special fillers results into a thermal conductive gap filler, sealant or adhesive, which can be painted because of its silicone-free characteristics.
